PEACE OFFICER WHO NABBED BANK BANDIT IN SALOON IN PIONEER DALLAS DAYS DIES
A pioneer citizen of North Texas whose eventful career included the capture of a member of a gang of bank robbers in Dallas, died Saturday at his home in Denison.
A.W. Mixson, 83, familiarly known as Judge Mixson, died at his home north of Denison.  Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Denison.
The capture of a bank robber who had been implicated in the Brubers Bank robbery occurred in an East Dallas saloon.  Mr. Mixson was a peach officer.
While in Dallas Mr. Mixson acquired a five-room cottage on the lot at the point where Live Oak street and Pacific avenue cross, at the present side of the Medical Arts Building.  He disposed of the property in 1883 for $1,800.  The same property sold recently for $60,000.
When Red River City, a village on the south bank of the Red River on the Houston & Texas Central Railroad, was established, Mr. Mixson moved to that territory.  The entire population of Red River City moved to Denison when the Missouri-Kansas-Texas and the Houston & Texas Central lines joined at that point.
Mr. Mixson joined the Confederate Army while in his teens during the Civil War.  He later became a United States Marshal and was a peace officer in Grayson County.  He was born Sept. 2, 1846, at Barnsville, S.C.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, M.C. Mixson of Omaha, Neb.; and Adrian and Ralph Mixson of Denison; five daughters, Mr. H.L. McLow of Greenville; Mrs. Anna Whiteacre and Misses Callie, Lois and Addie Mae of Denison; a stepson, Glenn Mixson of Denison; a brother, R.M. Mixson of Williston, S.C.; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. R.R. Nelms, foreman of the city street and bridge department, is a nephew.
