Denison - Services for Betty Jones Cherry of Denison, 78-year-old retired tea chef, were held Thursday morning, January 8, 1998, in Bratcher Chapel.  She died Tuesday, January 6, 1998, at Wilson N. Jones Regional Health System in Sherman.
Officiating was Rev. John Lancaster.  Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Cherry was born on October 7, 1919 in Denison, daughter of Reed W. and Julia Jones, Sr.  She received a bachelor's degree from Texas Women's University and a Master's degree from Southeastern State University.
She married Jim Cherry on February 2, 1947 in Denison.
She was a member of Waples Memorial United Methodist Church and a former member of the Denison Community Players and the Denison Library Board.
Mrs. Cherry taught in the Denison School district for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
Surviving are her husband, Jim Cherry, of Denison; sons, Jay Cherry and Mack Cherry, both of Denison; and Ben Cherry of Sherman; and grandchildren,
Mark Cherry, Elizabeth Cherry, Travis Cherry, and Katelin Cherry.

Funeral services for Jimmy Darwin Cherry, Sr., 81, of the Renaissance Retirement
Center of Sherman, Texas who died September 28, 2002, were held Monday morning,
September 30, 20020 at Fairview Cemetery graveside with Rev. Bob Stevens officiating.
Mr. Cherry was born October 19, 1920  in Drumwright, Oklahoma, son of Mack and Vennie Cherry.  He lived most of his young life in Ferris, Texas where he finished high school.  He later attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas.  He served in the Air Corps  statistical Department during World War II.  He married Betty
Virginia Jones on February 2, 1947 in Denison, Texas.
After he was discharged from the Air Corps, he moved to Denison, Texas where he became co-owner of Farmer Jones Store and lumberyard.  In 1968 he moved with his family to Little Rock, Arkansas to manage the Arkansas Division of Continental
Steel of Kohoma, Indiana.
In 1960 the Cherry's returned to Denison for him to take over the Texas territories.  Mr. Cherry took early retirement.  Within a short time he became salesman for Texas Steel Culvert. In Denison Mr. Cherry with his family attended Waples Memorial Methodist Church and he became a Mason in the early 1950s.
Mr. Cherry was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one brother and one sister.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Mack and Jay of Denison; and Ben and wife, Pam, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Mark and wife, Kesha, of Denison; Beth, Travis, and Katelin of Oklahoma City; and one great-granddaughter, Marlene.
Bratcher Funeral Home, Denison, was in charge of all arrangements.

Jay Cherry, 61, of Denison passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Texoma Medical Center venison.
Jay was  born Thursday, February 14, 1952 in Denison, son of Jimmie D. and Betty V.  Jones Cherry.  Jay was an Eagle Scout and a pilot in his earlier years.  He graduated from Southeastern State University and went to work at Texas Instruments and later for Ratheon.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mack Cherry.
He is survived by brother, Ben Cherry of Moore, Oklahoma; nieces, Beth Chandler, Katelin Cherry; nephew, Travis Cherry, all of Moore, Oklahoma;
nephew Mark Cherry and wife Keisha of Denison; and special friend, Rosemary Walsh of Howe.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, October 9, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Roy Spore, Waples United Methodist Church, officiating.
