Funeral services for Mrs. Zelia Whitney, 82, of 307 S. Scullin, were held at Bratcher-Moore chapel Wednesday afternoon at
4 o'clock with Rev. Duke Barron, pastor of Waples Methodist church officiating. Interment was in Fairview cemetery.
Mrs. Whitney died at Madonna hospital Monday evening at 6:15 after four days of critical illness. She was in the hospital three days.
Mrs. Whitney was born in Elgin, Texas, January 27, 1873, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Jones. She was married in Elgin in 1890 to Edward S. Whitney, broom maker of Caldwell, Texas, who died in 1901. They resided in Atoka before coming to Denison 39 years ago.
Mrs. Whitney was a member of Waples Methodist church and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sons, J. E. Whitney of Farmington, N.M., and George W. Whitney, Denison; one daughter, Mrs. Bobbie Mitchell, Denison; a sister, Mrs. Dora George; a nephew, George W. Whitney, Jr., of Fort Worth, who made his home with Mrs. Whitney most of his life; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
