 S. M. LARKIN DEAD
The Gazetteer regrets to announce the death of S. M. Larkin, which occurred at an early hour Wednesday. In the death of Mr. Larkin one of the very old landmarks is effected by death.
Mr. Larkin cast his lot with Denison in 1873, in a short time as builder and contractor he had all the work he could do. Many of the first brick and stone buildings of Denison were erected by Mr. Larkin. The first union depot for the M. K. & T. , and the H. & T. C. Railway companies were erected by Mr. Larkin. During the transition period when Denison was emerging from a frontier town Mr. Larkin was a very busy man, in fact, his services were more sought after than any contractor and builder in Denison. He gave employment to a large number of men. He was a skilled and conscientious workman and no man ever heard of Mr. Larkin delivering a poor job.
Mr. Larkin was one of the best farmers that ever lived in this section. When he got too old to be active in his profession he retired to his farm in the southeast portion of the city where he had lived many years. He was about the first in the market with his products. He took great delight and pride in his truck garden.
For over 32 years he had been almost a dairy vendor to Denison. Those who knew "old man Larkin" as he was called, loved and esteemed him. He was always hale fellow well met, and had a smile and a warm shake of the hand to every one he knew.  He was blunt and there never was trouble to place him on any subject. He was just and honorable and we never heard a mean __ charged against him. He was very active to within a few days of his death. The present generation know perhaps but little of the old gentleman who has gone to his last sleep at Maplewood, but the pioneers will ever think kindly of him.
Mr. Larkin left three children, Frank Larkin, at present, a resident of Denison, and two daughters, Mrs. Della Wallan, Mrs. Effie Burton, who are residents of Los Angeles, California and cannot be present for the funeral.
