COUNCILMAN WILLIAM HARDWICK.
The death of Councilman William Hardwick which occurred at his residence in south Denison Thursday morning at 12:30 o'clock was a shocking surprise to his many friends. Less than a week ago Mr. Hardwick was about upon the street attending to his regular business. A few days ago he caught what was thought to be a bad cold, but this gradually growing worse developed into pleuro-pneumonia, from which death resulted inside of three days. Mr. Hardwick was one of Denison's pioneer citizens, having been a continuous resident of the city from its earliest foundation. He was a man of generous impulse and friendly disposition, and of straightforward and uprightness in his business dealings. In the circle in which he moved he was eminently popular, and his death will be sincerely regretted by a very large circle of friends. During his residence in the city he figured to a considerable extent in municipal politics, and for six years had the guardianship of the city's peace in the capacity of city marshal. At the time of his death he was representing the Fourth Ward in the City Council. The funeral, which was an unusally large one, took place Friday afternoon from the Southern Methodist Church where the funeral sermon was preached at 3:00 o'clock p.m. by the Rev. C. E. Lamb. The remains were interred in Fairview Cemetery.
