16 September 1934 - 10 May 2022

Shirley Vesta (Amos) Toney, age 87, went to be with her Heavenly Father and reunited with her loving husband on May 10, 2022.  She passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Fort Worth, TX after living with Alzheimer’s disease for over 10 years.
Shirley was born on September 16, 1934  in Tioga, TX to Reverend Floyd Ray and Vesta Mae Amos. She was blessed with a close family of 6 siblings growing up in Texas and Oklahoma.  After graduating from Colbert High School and while attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK, she met a handsome young Air Force serviceman, Fred Toney, who soon became the love of her life.  They were married by her father, Reverend Floyd Amos, on November 18, 1955 and God blessed them with 2 children, Freddie and Ginger.  She loved being a homemaker and raising their children while proudly serving her country by faithfully supporting her husband, Master Sergeant Fred Toney, during his tours of duty for 20 years.  After they were stationed in France, Germany, Japan and many bases in the U.S., Fred retired from the United States Air Force and they moved to Denison, TX.  Shirley truly loved working for the City of Denison for 24 Years until she retired in 1998.   During their time in Denison, they were very active members of Parkside Baptist Church where Shirley played the piano and sang in the choir while Fred served as a deacon.  After retirement, they moved to Weatherford (Tin Top), TX where they enjoyed the country life while living on a farm and attended Spring Creek Baptist Church.  In 2015, Fred preceded Shirley in death after 60 years of marriage. They are now reunited and will be together forever with their Heavenly Father.
Shirley was a very dedicated, loyal and faithful Wife, Mother, Nana, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.  She was a strong but very caring and kind woman who loved Jesus, her husband, children, grandchildren, family and dear friends with all of her heart.  She treasured her children and especially loved her role as Nana.  She loved to cook for all of her friends and family and always kept an immaculate loving home.  She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
