Bill Penn killed a young freedman named Jerry Everheart on a bridge north of Kentucky Town. The Marshall had been on friendly terms with Bill before he killed Jerry. Jerry, a former slave of the Everheart family was well liked. He was buried in Everheart Cemetery.
