SHERMAN - Lorene Shelton went "home" to be with her heavenly family on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at the young age of 86

Lorene, born on Feb. 25, 1927 in Whitesboro; was the daughter of Herman and Lois (Stubblefield) Goldston and the sister to seven siblings. Lorene, the daughter of hard working parents had the honor of being raised on the 100 acre Grayson County Farm where her father managed the care facility for more than 35 years. The "County Farm" provided lodging and care for the elderly and she always shared wonderful stories of the many residents that called The County Farm home, and how those people were her extended family. Lorene's North Texas family roots date back to the 1850s when her ancestors settled in Grayson County. Lorene was also a graduate of Sherman High School. While she lived most of her adult life in San Antonio her heart was always bound to Sherman and its neighboring communities.

Lorene married Joe Bill Tamplen and was wed to him until his untimely death at the age of 27. From their marriage Lorene and Joe Bill had their daughter Sandra Lorene. On Dec. 29, 1951 Lorene married Jay Lee Shelton and they shared a life that spanned more than 50 years and had three additional children, Mary, Jerry and Nancy. Lorene dedicated her life to a service of homemaker and loved the chance to add antique dishes to their home. Jay and Lorene's four children in turn gave them 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Lorene is survived by her children, Sandra Smith, Mary and husband John Boyd, Jerry Shelton and wife Pam, Nancy and husband Mark Bauer; grandchildren include, Jennifer Smith, Jeff Smith, Ethan Founteno, Denisha Hicks, Shane Shelton, Sarah Lopez Rivera, Kristy Boyd Ochoa, Bill Boyd, Dary Boyd, Shelton Bauer, and Brayden Bauer. Lorene is also survived by her brother, Loy Goldston;. and brothers-in-law, Charles Tuley and Billy Shelton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Shelton; parents; brothers, Johnny, Leon, Delton, and Troy; and sisters, Mildred and Edna.

Family visitation will be held from 3 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 at Waldo Funeral Home. Funeral services for Lorene will be at
10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at the Dixie Cemetery, in the community of Dixie


In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be considered for the Alzheimer's Association; First  Baptist Church of Dorchester, Texas or a charity of your choice.

Services are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman.
