WHITESBORO – Funeral services for Earnest “Earn” F. Phelps, Jr., 62, will be held Thursday, August 23, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, Texas, with Bro. Mike Flanagan. Interment will follow the service at the Dixie Cemetery in Whitesboro. All service arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 22, from 6-7:30 p.m., at 804 Carver Street, Whitesboro, Texas.
He passed away on August 20, 2012, surrounded by family and friends, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Earn was born on October 8, 1949 to Earnest Floyd, Sr. and Margie Ruth (Mayo) Phelps in Olney, Texas. He married Janice Williams on July 20, 1968 in Arlington, Texas. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitesboro. He graduated Whitesboro High School in 1968. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He loved Thursday night get-togethers with friends for dinner and dominoes. He loved camping and sitting around the campfire with his sons at the deer lease. He recently celebrated his 44th year of marriage with the love of his life, Janice.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Phelps, of Whitesboro, TX; sons: Earnie Phelps, III of Greenville, TX; and Brian Phelps of Whitesboro, TX; five grandchildren: Alexis, Hayden, Bailey, Evan and Callen Phelps; his mother, Margie Ruth Phelps; and siblings: Linda Wilson and husband, Bill, of Whitesboro, TX; Johnny Phelps and wife, Judy, of Whitesboro, TX; and Carroll Jane Hale of Grand Prairie, TX; and many, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Floyd Phelps, Sr; and a granddaughter, Emma Kaye Phelps.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Barnes, Harold Tamplin, Jerry Patterson, Randy Kennedy, Steve Guffey, and Mike Sundeen. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Swank, Hayden Phelps, Johnny Phelps, and Russ Wilson.
