Funeral services were held at the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church at Desert for Mrs. J.H. Mathews [sic], 77, who died at her home in the Desert community Monday after a long illness.  Connie Hollis, Church of Christ minister of Leonard, conducted the services.  Burial in Cross Roads Cemetery were directed by Glen Earnheart.
Pallbearers are Dolph Hopper, Nile Arnwine, Willie Johns, S.B. Martin, R.P. Burgess, and Lonzo Donihoo.
Mrs. Mathews was born January 9, 1874 in Warren County, Tennessee, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Brewer.  She came to Texas in 1891 and was married to Mr. Mathews in 1893 at Pilot Grove; he preceeded her in death by one week.  She was a member of the church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Mamie Mathews of Desert; two grandsons, Harold Mathews of Desert and Bennie Arnwine of Trenton; and five great-grandchildren.
