Man Slays Son's Wife and Self

Denison, Tex., Dec. 7. - Mrs. Horace Hicks, 30, was shot to death Friday night at her farm home northwest of Hagerman, and a short time later her father-in-law, W. H. Hicks, 55, was found fatally shot at his trailer house in Hagerman.  Hicks was taken to a Sherman hospital, where he died Saturday.  It was alleged that Hicks shot at the dead woman's husband both before and after Mrs. Hicks was slain.

Justice of the Peace E. A. Wright after conducting a coroner's inquest returned a verdict of murder and suicide.
Horace Hicks, husband and son of the two victims, escaped by running into the woods, it was brought out in testimony at the hearing.  Five children of Horace Hicks were in the house with their mother when she was shot.

The home of the elder Hicks was on fire when neighbors found him there mortally wounded.  The house was destroyed.  He had been married twice.  Surviving him are six sons, five daughters and three sisters.

Sheriff P. M. Porter and Deputy Joe Hall said the elder Hicks accompanied his son and daughter-in-law to Denison to get relief groceries during the afternoon preceding the shooting.
