"Coach Hunter" went beyond the normal duties. He opened up his house and home where many of his students spent countless hours playing games and hanging out. He was more than just a coach, he was a friend, mentor, and a role model. Russell touched many lives leaving lasting impressions.
After retiring from education in 1986, Russell began his second career working at Wal-Mart in Sherman where he was a cashier for 21 years. At Wal-Mart he met many people and enjoyed getting to visiting with them all. Many times he was recognized by his customers outside of Wal-Mart, and they would simply want to say "hi" or how much they enjoy going through his line. However; Russell never lost sight of what was important to him, and that was family. During his time at Wal-Mart he was able to have flexible hours allowing him the time to spend with his family and friends. Russell particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in whatever sport they were playing.
