Wannell Hess Dobbs passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018.
She was born June 26, 1936 in Whitewright, Texas, daughter of Taylor David "Bud" and Elcie Louise Hood Hess.  She graduated in 1954, the last graduating class at Denison High School on Main Street.  She married Joe Edward Dobbs October 8, 1954 in Durant, Oklahoma.  They had one daughter, Maria Jonell Dobbs, and one son, Darel Edward Dobbs.
Her first job was during high school at S.H. Kress Variety Store, later Clay's Food Store in Denison. From 1965 - 1979 she worked at Texas Instruments in Richardson and Sherman.  After moving to Garland in 1979, she worked over 20 years as manager of Holly's Hallmark Card and Gift Shops in Garland, Plano and Casa View in Dallas.  She worked with special people who became friends and she enjoyed meeting the customers and planning for each holiday.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1992; daughter, Maria Jonell in 2009; sister, Earline Hess Hicks in 2001; and nephew, Roger Hicks in June 2018.
She is survived by her son, Darel Dobbs and grandson, Austin; great-grandchildren, Jack Ryan Dobbs, Claire Taylor Dobbs and Luke Thomas Dobbs of Katy, Texas; brothers, Charles and wife, Drusilla Hess, of Athens; Dean and LaVern Hess; Jerry and Gary Phillip Hess of Denison; sisters, Barbara Styles of Bells and Brenda Markham of Denison; many nieces, nephews and cousins in Texas, Missouri and Arkansas; and many Dobbs relatives.  
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating.  Interment followed in Collinsville Cemetery.  Pallbearers were nephews.

Maria "Jonell" Dobbs, 54, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Rowlett Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rowlett. 
Mrs. Dobbs was born July 12, 1955 in Denison, the daughter of Joe and Wannell (Hess) Dobbs. She graduated from Denison High School in 1973 and joined the U.S. Army in January 1974. She served nine years in the Military Police at United States bases, Seoul, Korea and Berlin, Germany. After an honorable discharge, she moved to Garland in 1983. She had lived there since then, and worked at E-Systems Avnet Inc. She received a master's degree in interdisciplinary arts at University of Texas in Dallas in 1994. 
Jonell is survived by her loving family: mother, Wannell Dobbs of Garland brother, Darel Dobbs of Austin; nephew, Austin Dobbs of Austin; aunts and uncles, Charles and Drusilla Hess of Athens, Dean and LaVern Hess, Jerry Hess, Gary Phillip Hess all of Denison, Barbara and J.B. Styles of Bells, Brenda and Vernon Markham of Denison, Cecil and Carol Dobbs of Sherman, Dorothy Dobbs Ludlam and Freda Dobbs of Whitesboro, Ronny and Carla Dobbs of Whitewright, Melba Dobbs of Sherman; many cousins in Texas and Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Dobbs; grandparents, T. D. "Bud" and Elcie Louise Hood Hess, Emmott and Opal McKnight Dobbs. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor David Pettigrew officiating. Interment will follow at Collinsville Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 6 -8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at Fisher Funeral Home. 
Pallbearers will be nephew, Austin Dobbs and cousins. 
Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 W. Main, Denison.
