Farmer Fatally Wounded
Lawson Smith, Prominent Farmer near Sadler, Dies in Hospital at Sherman.
Special to the News- Sherman, Tex. Nov 25. - Lawson Smith, 42 years of age, a prominent farmer of the Sadler Community, this county, was shot and fatally wounded at that place shortly after 5 o'clock this evening.
Smith was brought to Sherman in a very serious condition about 8:30 o'clock tonight. He died about 9:40 o 'clock. He was brought to that place by his father, W.A. Smith, and Dr. Belcher, both of Sadler. Smith's wounds were in the left side of the face and neck.
Immediately on receipt of the news of the shooting, Sheriff Lee Simmons and Deputy Sheriff Henry D'Spain left for Sadler, armed with a warrant for J.B. Green, Smith's brother-in-law. Both Smith and Green have families.

AMONG THE COURTS
Green Found Not Guilty
The jury in the case of the State vs. J.B. Green, charged with killing his brother-in-law, Lawson Smith, and tried in the 59th district court, returned a verdict of not guilty.
The defendant was represented by Cal T. Freeman and Charles Batsell, and at the conclusion of the testimony last night, Hum H. Cummins, representing the state, made a speech, after which Messrs. Freeman and Batsell agreed to submit it to the jury without further argument and the jury was out only 10 minutes.  Lawson Smith was killed November 25, 1915, near Sadler, at the home of Green.
