Funeral services for Reverend Owen C. Gilbert will be held at Waldo Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Monday, August 1. Reverend Kelly Montgomery and Reverend Bill Lee will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Reverend Gilbert, age 93, was called home on Thursday, July 28, with his family at his side.

The family will receive friends at Waldo Funeral Home, beginning at 1 p.m., Monday, prior to services.

Reverend Owen C. Gilbert, known to his friends as "OC," was born on June 7, 1918, on the Four Sixes Ranch in the Texas Panhandle. His Dad soon moved to work on a ranch around Clarendon where he lived with his older brother and two sisters until he was 13, when they moved to Big Springs. He married the love of his life, Juanita Lee, and they had three sons, all who reside in Sherman.

Reverend O.C. Gilbert served in World War II, and on his return, became a Church of God minister and pastor. O.C. and Juanita Gilbert were faithful servants of the Lord's calling and served in several locations, including Bonham, Wichita Falls, Mineral Wells, and the Dallas area. In 1984, they retired to Sherman to be near their children and grandchildren. O.C. continued to be a guest speaker for area churches, and he presided over many weddings and funerals. Juanita, his best friend and partner, preceded him in death in 1997. They were a great team and prayer warriors that influenced many lives all over Texas.

O.C. Gilbert is survived by three sons, Owen L. Gilbert and wife Betty; Jerry G. Gilbert and wife Jean; and Dean Gilbert
and wife Gail, all of Sherman; ten grandchildren, Gina Allen and husband Gary of Dublin, California; Douglas Gilbert of Denton; Tim Gilbert and wife Kitti of Bells; Gina Jones and husband Richard of Denison; Whitney Niles and husband Tom of Nashville, Tennessee; Jerry Gilbert, Jr. of Wichita Falls; Dean Gilbert, Jr. and wife Tracy of Sherman; Casie Couch and husband Jason of Southlake; Kelli Wagner and husband Lee of Dallas; and Joe Gilbert of Sherman. He left a legacy of thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Tim Gilbert, Joe Gilbert, Dean Gilbert, Jr.; Lee Wagner and Jason Couch, spouses of granddaughters; and great-grandsons Clay Gilbert and Grant Gilbert.

Memorials may be made to the State Office of the Church of God, 2240 Fort Worth Highway, Weatherford, TX 76085.
