JOHN SLAGLE COKER
25 January 1917 – 29 August 1975

 
John was born in the Ida community, SE of Sherman, Texas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Coker.  He died in a local Sherman Hospital.

He attended Ida school.  On 25 September 1972, he wed Miss Sue Nations in Sherman.

John was employed by the city of Sherman for 32 years and was the city health inspector at his death.

He was a member of the Coin Collectors Club and of the East Sherman Baptist Church.

He was survived by his wife; father, Joe Coker of Sherman; son, Don Coker of Sherman; daughter, Mrs. Kathy Eoff of Sherman; brothers, Bennie and Woodrow Coker, both of Sherman, and Herbert Coker of Pampa, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Opalee Powell and Mrs. Irene Clark both of Dallas’ and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel, Sherman, the Rev. R.M. Williams of the East Sherman Baptist Church and the Rev. Dale Gore of the Trinity Baptist Church officiated.

Obituary appeared on the Sherman Democrat newspaper on 30 August 1976.
