Southmayd - Funeral services for John William Weimer were held Thursday afternoon, November 2, 2017 at Fairview Baptist Church.  Rev. Chris Moses a nd Rev. Bobby Fletcher officiated.  Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Audie Hall, Jimmy Fred Klas, David Strasner, Rad Richardson, John Henry Bundschuh, and Sam Kennemer serving as pallbearers.  Mr. Weimer, 89, died Monday, October 30, 2017 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center, Sherman, Texas.
John was born in Midlothian, Texas, on February  12, 1928, son of T.H. a nd Viva England Weimer.  The family moved to Southmayd community when he was 5 years old.  He attended Southmayd schools, graduating in 1944.
He married Betty Jean Braswell on December 23, 1944  by  Rev. S.M. Shirley in Durant, Oklahoma.  They celebrated 72 years in December 2016.  He was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and greeter.
John worked 23 years at Line Material and retired from Crookham & Vessels in 1990.  He was a heavy-duty equipment mechanic and was selef-employed later.  He loved farming, raising cattle, helping friends work on tractors.  John was a very devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife and 2 children, Ron Weimer and wife, Tomasa  of Rockwall, Texas; and daughter, Linda Kanches of Aiken, South Carolina; a daughter adopted by love, Betty Sue Scott of Dorchester; 4 grandchildren: John Kanches of Aiken, South Carolina; and David Michael Kanches of Houston; Meredith Ashley Skirbe of Dallas; and Christina Michelle Weimer of Rockwall; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Barney Lee Weimer.

Southmayd - Betty was born on the family farm near Southmayd on October 6, 1928, daughter of Sim and Maude Mattingly Braswell.  She attended school at Southmayd.
Betty married John W. Weimer on December 23, 1944 in Durant, Oklahoma by Rev. S.M. Shirley.  She worked at Poole Manufacturing for 14 years and retired from Texas Instruments after 24 years.  Betty served as secretary/treasurer of Kendall Chapel Cemetery Association since 1960.  She was a member of Wilson N. Jones Auxilliary and was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Betty loved baking cakes for Bake Sales, friends and family.  
She is survived by her 2 children, Ron Weimer and wife, Tomasa, of Rockwall, Texas; and Linda Kanches of Aiken, South  Carolina; and adopted daughter by love, Betty Sue Scott of Dorchester; 4 grandchildren: Meredith Skirbe of Dallas; Christina Weimer of Rockwall; John T. Kanches of Aiken, South Carolina; and David M. Kanches of Houston; and 7 great-grandchildren: Colin Weimer; Alana Kanches; Scarlett Weimer; Brooke Kanches; Mallory Skirbe of Dallas; Charlotte Kanches; and Grace Weimer.  Betty is also survived by serveral nieces, nephews and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Raymond Braswell and John S. Braswell, Jr.; sisters, Eula Mae Bates; Lois Kohny and Jewel "Tot" Bundschuh.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, December 28, 2018 at Fairview Baptist Church. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial  Park, Sherman, Texas.  Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
