Services were held Saturday morning at the Waldo Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Lessie Tinsley, former Sherman resident and widow of the late Melvin U. Tinsley.  She died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at a Sherman hospital unexpectedly from an apparent heart attack. She came to Sherman Monday from Houston to visit friends from her home in Houston where she was living since the death of her husband.  She suffered the attack while at the home of Mrs. Fritz Tripett and was dead on arrival at a Sherman Hospital.
Services were conducted by Dr. Tom Brandon, pastor of the First Baptist Church, with burial at Cedarlawn Memorial Park under direction of the Waldo Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tinsley was born October 16, 1901 at Mexia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Baker. She was married to Melvin U. Tinsley in 1917 at West, Texas. He died February 26, 1966
She attended West public schools and the Julliard School of Music, completed the Fred Warings School of Music and spent much of her life entertaining as a musician. She organized the first all girl orchestra in the country under the name of "The Fashionettes" and later the orchestra appeared nationally as the "The Saundraetts." She had a regular radio program over WFAA, WRR and KRLD for several years from 1928 as "The Harmony Duo."
She taught music at Greenville at Tinsley-Lewis Studios from 1939 to 1953. She was noted for her appearances in Sherman as staff organist at several restaurants and special events. She moved to Sherman in 1945 and had lived here until moving to Houston at the death of her husband. She was engaged in the teaching of music at Houston and appeared regularly at the "The Briar Club" there.
Survivors are 2 sons, Glen E. Tinsley of Pasadena and Byron R. Tinsley of Seabrook; 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and one niece.
Pallbearers were Goodloe Lewis, Warren Jenny, Charles Burch, Jerry Talley, Lynn McKinney and Clyde Hale.
Honorary bearers were Fred Holland, Al Berber, Alan Blake and Jake Robinson.
