Sherman - Funeral services for Lona Mae Sims were held Tuesday morning, August 3, 2010 at Waldo Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Wood of the West Sherman Baptist Church officiating and Rev. Sam Whited assisting.  Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.  Mrs. Sims, 92, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Homestead of Sherman.
Lona Mae was born September 17, 1917 [sic] in Fannin County, daughter of Frank and Effie Georgie Thomas Giles.  She graduated from Windom schools and married Andrew Sims on October 20, 1935 in Bonham.  They were married over 57 years when Mr. Sims passed away in June 1993.  Mrs. Sims worked several places including McClellan's, Singers, and Montgomery Ward before retiring from Texas Instruments.  Mrs. Sims loved to laugh and she enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family.  Lona Mae was a longtime member of the East Sherman Baptist Church and more recently was a member of the West Sherman Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sims is survived by one daughter, Elsie Mae McCracken and husband, Don, of Marshall, Texas; 8 grandchildren: Andy Wayne Gauntt, Jamie Gauntt, Kevin Haliburton, Mary Ann Yow, Daniel Yow, Donnie McCracken, and George McCracken; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Troy Giles of Denison and Frank Giles, Jr. of Houston; 2 sisters, Catherine Trammel of Sherman and Ruby McQueary of Sherman; numerous nieces and nephews; and her trusted friend, Dorothy Warren.
Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Darlene Yow; sister, Jeanette Aldape; granddaughter, Vicki Earlene Haliburton; and a grandson, Frank McCracken.
