Denison - Gene Schleuse. 86-year-old Denison resident, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Texoma Medical Center.
Services were held Friday morning, January 19, 2007 at Johnson-Moore Chapel with Dr. Chet Haney officiating.  Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Schleuse was born on December 29, 1920 in Denison, son of Albert Henry and Minnie Burns Schleuse and attended Denison schools.  He married Katie M. Evans on March 30, 1 940 in Madill, Oklahoma. Mr. Schleuse was a charter member of Parkside Baptist Church and a long-time member of Highland Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas.  He owned and operated the White Pig Drive Inn in Lubbock from 1957 to 1995.  Upon retiring he moved back to Denison to be closer to his family.
Gene was a devoted family man and often told his friends that "if you don't have family, you don't have anything." He was extremely successful and had accolades written about him in Texas Monthly.  Gene was known by his family as "DadDad" and was a most generous, patient and kind man.  He was the rock for the family and will always be remembered a such.
Surviving are his son, David Schleuse and wife, Damon, of Ft. Worth; daughter, Donna Upchurch and husband, Dale, of Denison; brother, Robert Schleuse of Denison; sister, Thelma Briggs of California; grandchildren, Michael Schleuse and wife, of Atlanta, Georgia; Gregory Carter of Plano, Texas; Debbie Schleuse of McKinney, Texas; and Brent Schleuse of Austin, Texas; 2 great-grandchildren, Greyson and Ashton Blair Carter of Plano, Texas.
The family suggests memorials to Parkside Baptist Church Building Fund, Denison, Texas.


Katie Schleuse, beloved wife of Eutene C. Schleuse, was united with her Savior Monday, November 22, 2004 in Denison, Texas.  Katie was born February 18, 1922 in Stephenville.  Katie and Gene were united in matrimony March 30, 1940.  She was a resident of Lubbock from 1957 to 2002.  She was a member of Highland Baptist Church and of Parkside Baptist Church in Denison.
Katie and Gene were the former owners of the White Pig Drive-In restaurant in Lubbock.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years; son, David Schleuse and wife, Damon; daughter, Donna Upchurch and husband, Dale; grandchildren, Mike Schleuse of Atlanta, Georgia; Brent Schleuse of Orlando, Florida; Debbie Schleuse of McKinney; Greg Carter and wife, Jennifer, of Plano and their 2 children, Greyson and Ashton.
Services were held Wednesday morning, November 24, 2004 at the Johnson-Moore Funeral Home Chapel, Denison.
