Services are pending with Dannel Funeral Home for Harold Skaggs of Route 1 Skaggs Road, 83-year-old retired farmer and former trustee and president of the Sherman Independent School District board of trustees, who died Wednesday at his residence following an extended illness.

Friday service set for former trustee

Services for Harold Skaggs of Route 1, Sherman, 83-year-old retired farmer and former Sherman School board president who died Wednesday at his home, were held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church.  Dr. Tom Brandon officiated and burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, directed by Dannel Funeral Home.
A Sherman resident for the past 45 years, Mr. Skaggs was born in Blossom, a son of Thomas Handy and Anna Herron Skaggs, and graduated from Norman Oklahom High School in 1920 and Waco Business College in 1924. He married Leona Muncy on November 18, 1933 in Okemah, Oklahoma.
Mr. Skaggs was a member of the Sherman School Board from 1949 - 1958 and served as president four years. He was a member of the Upper Elm-Red Soil Conservation District from 1959 until 1972 and served as chairman for 19 years.
A 32nd Degree Mason with 50 years service, he was a member of Andrew Randolph Massonic Lodge, a life member of Parent Teachers Association, a charter member of the Farm Bureau Federation and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; son, Dr. Harold Skaggs Jr. of Austin; daughters, Mrs. Anna Lee Keller of Dallas and Mrs. Pat Pierce of Sherman; sister, Mrs. Anna Mack Houghton of Denton; and 12 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons; Paul Howdershell, Scott Keller, David Hodershell, Harold Skaggs III, Lee Pierce and Jack Skaggs.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor's favorite charity.
