Maurice Dale Pierce was born Sunday, August 21, 1921 in Sherman, Texas, oldest of 8 children, to parents, Claude and Etta Mae Harmon Pierce.  Mr. Pierce passed from this life on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the age of 96.

Maurice was raised on a farm as a kid and enjoyed the outdoors and loved playing baseball.  When he got older, he worked in insurance sales briefly before getting a job through Civilian Conservation Corps and worked as a cook for 2 years.  Maurice got a job at a Piggly Wiggly when he was 19 and that is where he would meet the love of his life, Helen Foster.  He would later marry her 3 months later on July 20, 1941 in Sherman.
Maurice was drafter into the Army in 1943 and served 2 years during World War II.  His infantry fought the Japanese in the South Pacific Islands.  He was discharged as Staff Sergeant of the 103rd Infantry.
Maurice continued working for Piggly Wiggly and spent his last 25 years there as a manager.  When he was 54, he and Helen bought the Stop n Shop store on Woods St. and worked the store for 2 years.  They eventually sold it because owning the store didn't give them time off to attend church.  Maurice then spent the next 4 years as Grocery Manager for both the Sherman and Denison Gibsons stores before retiring.
They attended East Sherman Baptist Church where they both taught Sunday School.   Maurice was ordained a deacon on December 7, 1975.  They were charter members of West Sherman Baptist Church.

Helen preceded him in death on July 8, 2000.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale, Jr.; and 5 brothers.
He is survived by his son, Stan Pierce and wife, Pat, of Tom Bean; sister, Alma Bentley of Sherman; brother, Wilburn Pierce of Sherman; grandchildren: Tracey Pierce of Oklahoma; Pam Dodson of Whitewright; and Steve Pierce of Sherman; great-grandchildren: Shelby and Avery Dodson, both of Whitewright; great-great-granddaughter, Amy McClain of Whitewright; sisters-in-law, Johnnie Pierce of Garland; Margaret Williams of Sherman; Mary Allison of Sherman; and Ann Pierce of Garland; brother-in-law, Clifford Foster and wife, Kathy, of Sherman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, February 28, 2018 at West Sherman Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Wood officiating.  Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with the Deacons serving as pallbearers. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
