Sherman - Services for Joyce Ann Pierce, 81, were held Thursday afternoon, September 28, 2017 at Legacy Bible Church, Denison, Texas.  Prior to the service, committal and burial were held at noon at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.  Rev. Andy Burnett, pastor of Church of God AWA officiated and pallbearers were Brandon Pierce, Kory Pierce, Cooper Pierce, Jimmy Howard, Randy Hefner and Larry Pierce.
Joyce Ann McClendon Pierce was born in Luther, Oklahoma on June 8, 1936, daughter of Melvin and CB McClendon.  She married Wilburn Pierce in Sherman, Texas on February 23, 1956. She was a loving wife and mother who devoted herself to her family as a full time homemaker.  What many people don't know was that she was an artist, a poet, and a beautiful singer.
She passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 in Denison, Texas after a long illness.  
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Larry McClendon.
She is survived by her husband; 4 children: James Pierce and wife, Teresa; Randy Pierce and wife, Renee; Kathy Howard and husband, Brad, all of Sherman, Texas; and Gregory Alan Pierce of Denison, Texas; one brother, Paul McClendon and wife, Vera, of Vinita, Oklahoma; and one sister, Edna Thomas and husband, Dan, of Columbia, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren: Amy Pierce, Brandon Pierce, Kory Pierce, Justin Pierce, Kyle Pierce, Nathan Pierce, Amanda Williford, Jimmy Howard, Kaela Barnett, and Cooper Pierce; also numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.

Wilburn Pierce, 89, of Sherman, ascended to his eternal home Sunday, May 29, 2022 at his residence, following an extended illness.
Wilburn Leo Pierce was born at his parents' home on Elm Street in Sherman, Texas on February 28, 1933, son of Claude and Etta Mae Pierce.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Ann McClendon Pierce ; his parents and 6 brothers.
He is survived by his only sister, Alma Bentley; children: James and wife, Teresa; Randy; Kathy and husband, Brad Howard; and Alan Pierce.  He also left a legacy of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was laid to rest next to his wife at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Good Shepherd, Denison, Texas.  Pallbearers were James Howard, Brandon Pierce, Cooper Pierce, Kyle Pierce, Nathan Pierce, and Landry Pierce.
He was a hard working man, devoted husband and father.  He served his country in the Navy from 1952 to 1956.  He served on the USS Point Cruz Carrier escort during the Korean War where he was a Naval 3rd class Petty Officer, Boatswain's Mate.  He also served as a Fireman at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.
"Will" Was a savvy businessman.   He was not afraid to take risks and start new business endeavors from co-owning an auto repair shop with his sons, to purchasing numerous homes for both resale and rental. But his love was the insurance business he built over a period of 40 years. One of the joys of his life was to pass this venture to one of his sons, Alan, who has gone on to take it to even greater heights.
What some may not know is that Will was a musician.  He was both a singer, song writer and loved to dance.  He sang his children to sleep at night with his Kay guitar that he bought during his Navy days.  He instilled this love of m c in his children, which led to a family band and years of joy picking and grinning with family and friends.
Just 7 months after his wife passed, he experienced a massive stroke.  He fought a valiant fight for over 4 years, with his 4 kids by his side, before succumbing to the debilitating effects of his stroke.  During these years, he was able to experience many family events including  most recently a party for his 89th birthday and one of his favorite things, horse racing, in which he watched the 2022 Kentucky Derby with his family and friends.
The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2022 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andy Burnett officiating.  Burial followed in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, Texas.  Arrangements were entrusted to James E. Smith and the professionals of Waldo Funeral Home. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
