Funeral services for H. E. "Jack" Pilcher were held Friday morning, May 18, 2007 at East Sherman Baptist Church. Bro. Roland Ouellette of the church and Rev. Tim Clayton of the First Baptist Church of Giddings officiated. Burial with Masonic Rites followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Pilcher passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center at the age of 85. 

Jack was born on January 1, 1922, in Grice, Texas to the late Noah and Jo Rebecca (Holder) Pilcher. He graduated from Gilmer High School in 1940 and served in the Army Air Corp in Europe during World War II. Following the war, he and Irene Autrey were married on December 25, 1952, in Gilmer. Jack worked as a barber for over 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a longtime member of East Sherman Baptist Church, where he was active in the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Past Master of the Andrew Randell Lodge and held membership in the York Rite. During retirement, Jack enjoyed fishing as a member of the Sherman Country Club. 
Mr. Pilcher is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene; one son, Hal and his wife, Jimmie Jill, of Sherman; one daughter, Marla Laugherty and her husband Fred, of Peoria, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Brandon Pilcher of Sapporo, Japan, Morgan Pilcher of Sherman, and Julie, Janna, Madison, and Molly Laugherty, all of Peoria; one great-granddaughter, Ashlie Pilcher of Princeton; 2 sisters, Lou Long of Midland and Patsy Irvin of Port O'Connor, Texas; and one brother, Curtis Pilcher of Houston.


Irene Autrey Pilcher, 98, of Sherman, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in Peoria, Illinois.
Irene was born November 29, 1919 in Bethel, Texas, daughter of Taylor and Julia Ella Witherspoon Autrey.   Her siblings included Louise Autrey Scott, Mildred Autrey Geer, and Thelma Autrey Kite.  She graduated from Whitewright High School in 1937.   She went on to attend Wilson N. Jones School of Nursing and received her RN license.  During her career as a nurse, she worked at Wilson N. Jones Hospital , at the Woodward clinic with Drs. Woodward and Norman in Sherman, the Wood County Health department, and as a school nurse in Pottsboro, Texas, where she worked for 31 years.
Irene met her husband, Halton E. "Jack" Pilcher in Quitman, Texas, while she was working as a public health nurse and he was the town barber.  They were married December 25, 1952 in Gilmer, Texas.   They eventually moved to Sherman, Texas where they raised 2 children, Halton Autrey Pilcher and Marla Kay Pilcher Laugherty.  She was an active member of East Sherman Baptist Church, and previously Forest Avenue Baptist Church.  Irene enjoyed spending time with her grandson and 5 granddaughters, and 4 great-granddaughters.  She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and fishing with Jack at Sherman Country Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Marla Laugherty and husband, Fred, of Peoria, Illinois; grandchildren, Brandon Pilcher of Brooklyn, New York; Julie Stuber and husband Jed, of Peoria, Illinois; Janna Stilwell and husband, Leonard, of Springfield, Illinois; Morgan Pilcher of Doss, Texas; Madison Laugherty and Molly Laugherty of Peoria, Illinois; great-granddaughter, Ashlie Gomez Pilcher of Lubbock, Texas; and Rosie, Cadence and Noelle Stuber of Peoria, Illinois; sister, Thelma Kite of Garland, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jill Pilcher of Doss, Texas; and other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Halton A. Pilcher; sisters, Louise Scott and Mildred Geer.
Funeral services for Irene were held Saturday morning, February 9, 2018 at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas.  Pastor Rob Shepherd of East Sherman Baptist Church officiated.  Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, Texas. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
