DENISON – Susan Ida Knittel Pierce, 99, peacefully passed away to be with her Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her family and faithful pets Crippie and Jingle Bell, at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Plano, Texas on June 26, 2011. Rosary was said at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 20, 2011 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 416 N. Rusk Avenue, Denison, Texas, with Rev. Stephen Mocio officiating. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Parkway, Sherman, Texas.
Mrs. Pierce was born January 30, 1912 in Lincoln, Texas, the daughter of Joseph Knittel & Margaret Gillon. Throughout her life, she was steadfast and strong in the Catholic faith as a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Denison, Texas and her daughters attended school at St. Xavier Academy. Mrs. Pierce was proud to be one of the last pioneer women of Texas. She was a strong woman who never gave up on life. Upon settling for farm life, she worked farming chickens, cattle, peaches and pecans. She loved the animals and her pets dearly. Additionally, she enjoyed being a seamstress, homemaker, cook and everything that goes with living a country life. Most of all, she loved being a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
She leaves behind her loving daughter Susan Koiner & son-in-law James of Plano; grandsons Mark Koiner of Allen, Scott Koiner of Plano, Tony Koiner of Allen, Craig Bruce & wife Lisa of San Antonio; granddaughter Wynonne Bruce Hamer of Burleson; great-grandchildren Reagan Koiner, Morgan Koiner, Reed Koiner and Ashley Hamer; nephews Philip and Troy Usher and her best friends Floy and Tom Slominski.

Waiting for her in heaven are her daughter Martha Lois Bruce and husband Sammie Benton Pierce; her mother and father Margaret Gillon Knittel and Joseph Knittel; brother Buddy; sister Josephine and brother-in-law Charles Usher.
Arrangements were entrusted to Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, TX 75020.
