Former longtime Sherman resident Troy Pickens Owen died Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in Carrollton, Texas. He was 86.

Mr. Owen was born to Paul Lindsey Owen and Mamie Heltsley Pickens on June 30, 1925 in Fannin County, near Ector, Texas. He was a 1943 graduate of Whitewright High School. He married Mary Oleta Worsham on February 1, 1946 in Whitewright, Texas.
Drafted in 1943, Mr. Owen served honorably with the 1076th Army Engineer Dredge Crew in the Pacific during World War II. Following the war he returned to farming and in 1952 moved his young family to Sherman. Mr. Owen worked for almost 30 years as an insurance agent with the American National Insurance Company in Sherman, retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Oleta of Carrollton, Texas; children, Melvin Owen (and Rebecca) of Durango, Colorado, Leta Owen of Garland, Texas, and Daniel Owen (and Bonnie) of Wellington, Florida; sister Pauline Owen Davis of Bonham, Texas; five grandchildren : Andrew Owen (and Tricia) of Arlington, Virginia, James Owen of Denver, Colorado, David Owen (and Alana) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Matthew Owen of Jupiter, Florida, and Stephen Owen of Wellington, Florida; and one great-grandchild, Clark Owen of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.



Sherman - Graveside services for Mary Oleta Owen, 86, and longtime resident of Sherman was held Saturday morning, December 8, 2012, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Joe Goolsby officiating.  Mrs. Owen died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, in Carrolton.
Oleta was born January 21, 1926 in Leonard, Texas, daughter of James Alvin Worsham and Mary Isabel Bradshaw.  She was a 1942 graduate of Whitewright High School.  She married Troy P. Owen on February 1, 1946 in Whitewright, Texas.  They moved their young family to Sherman in 1952.
In addition to being a homemaker, Oleta worked as a secretary/bookkeeper in the Sherman area for over 30 years, retiring from Montgomery Wards in 1988.  She was a faithful member and tireless supporter of Key Memorial United Methodist Church for almost 60 years.
She was preceded by her husband; and a sister, Lorene Worsham Alexander.
She is survived by children: Melvin Owen and wife, Rebecca of Durango, Colorado; Leta Owen of Garland, Texas; and Daniel Owen and wife, Bonnie of Wellington, Florida; 5 grandchildren - Andrew Owen and wife, Tricia of Alexandria, Virginia; James Owen of Denver, Colorado; David Owen and wife, Alana of Salt Lake City, Utah; Matthew Owen of Jupiter, Florida; and Stephen Owen of Wellington, Florida; one great-grandchild, Clark Owen of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Doyce Wortham of Whitewright, Texas; sister-in-law, Pauline Owen Davis of Bonham, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
