SHERMAN - Services for Lahoma Gene Owens, formerly of Sherman, were held Monday morning in the Chapel on the Hill at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Owens passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Christian Care Center in Mesquite.
Lahoma is survived by her daughter, Peggy Clark of Denison; sister, Nell Portman of Sulphur, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.

SHERMAN - Services for Lahoma Gene Owens, formerly of Sherman, were held Monday morning, February 15, 2010, in the Chapel on the Hill at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Owens passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Christian Care Center in Mesquite. John Curtis of the 5th and Beach Street Church of Christ in Durant, Oklahoma officiated. Burial  followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons, Ralph Owens, Michael Clark, Jerry Clark and Matt Clark.  Waldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lahoma was born October 16, 1915, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to C.J. and Willie May Fowler Gillaspie. She worked at Perrin Air Force Base in the PX for 10 years, and then in the water department for the City of Sherman for 10 years. She was a member of Western Heights Church of Christ and was a long time Bible teacher in the Cradle Roll. 
On June 24, 1932, she married Mervin Fred Owens in Marrietta, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2002. 
Preceded in death by her husband; sons, Mervin Fred Owens Jr. and Clifton Wayne Owens, she is survived by her daughter, Peggy Clark and husband, Floyd, of Denison; sister-in-law Chic Owens, of Abilene; grandchildren Ralph Owens, Donna Nichols, Tammy Owens, Michael Clark, Jerry Clark and Matt Clark; and a sister Nell Portman of Sulphur, Oklahoma.
