Charlie Rufus Owens, age 96, entered into eternal life Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Traditions Senior Living in Sherman, Texas.
Mr. Owens was born November 4, 1914 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma the son of Henry Thomas and Florence Virginia (Long) Owens. Charlie married the love of his life, Helen Elaine Bowling June 11, 1939 in Hollis, Oklahoma. He retired from Southwestern Drug Corporation after many years of being a traveling drug rep. Later he worked at Hestands Pharmacy until it closed in Sherman. Charlie loved the Lord and was a member of First Christian Church in Denison. He was an active member of the church, serving as an Elder Emeritus, making beans for the chili suppers; to being a member of the Golden Oldies he enjoyed the fellowship with all. Most enduring was his love and support of his beloved wife and children. Helen was an artist and he would frame her art and they would travel to many art shows displaying her work. He was so proud of her and his children; he was an excellent role model for all instilling a good work ethic and family values. He lived a life of example and was loved and respected by all who crossed his path. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Mr. Owens is survived by his beloved family, daughter, Gayle Owens Burris of Garland, Texas, and son, Tom Owens and wife, Phyllis of Edwards, Colorado; grandchildren : Jimmy Don Burris and wife, Lisa of McKinney, Texas, Barry Burris and wife, Katrina of McKinney, Texas, Renee Adair and husband, Ronnie of Dripping Spring, Texas, Jennifer Bloess and husband, Brian of Eagle, Colorado, Gary Kimbro and wife, Kim of Golden, Colorado and Laura England of Eagle, Colorado, great grandchildren : Jim Bob Burris, Alex Burris, Christine Clark, Matthew Burris, Rusty Burris, Dusty Burris, Lydia Bloess, Adam Bloess, Chelsea Adair, Kyle Adair, Lane Kimbro, Kate Kimbro and Austin England, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 71 years, Helen Owens, and siblings, Jim, Ida, Oleta, Arietta, Monroe, and H. T.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at First Christian Church with Pastor Steve Chambers officiating. Interment followed in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 West Main in Denison.

Sherman - Helen Elaine Owens, 90, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Texoma Healthcare Center in Sherman.
Mrs. Owens was born May 1, 1920 in Jennings, Oklahoma, daughter of Tom and Esther Flager Bowling.   Helen married the love of her life, Charlie Owens, June 11, 1939 in Hollis, Oklahoma. 
Helen was a very talented artist and was always studying art.  She has shown her art at many places and currently at Images Gallery in Denison.  Helen not only sold art but taught it.  She especially loved to teach children to appreciate art and their own creativity.   Helen loved the Lord and was a member of First Christian Church in Denison.  She was a loving wife, mother and sister.  Helen will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Charlie R. Owens of Sherman; daughter, Gayle Owens Burris of Garland; and son, Tom Owens and wife, Phyllis of Edwards, Colorado; grandchildren, Jimmy Don Burris and wife, Lisa, of McKinney; Barry Burris and wife, Katrina of McKinney; Gary Kimbro and wife, Kim of Golden, Colorado; Laura England of Eagle, Colorado; Renee Adair and husband Ronnie of Dripping Springs; and Jennifer Bloess and husband, Brian, of Gypsum, Colorado; great-grandchildren: Jim Bob, Alex, Christine, Matthew, Rusty, Austin, Kyle, Chelsea, Lydia, Land, Kate and Adam; and sister, Joann Farris and husband, James, of Sherman.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, October 4, 2010 at First Christian Church with Pastor Steve Chambers officiating.  Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.  Pallbearers were Clifford Johnson, Vernon Mathis, David Massey, Ossie Davis, Robert Brady and David Maddox.  Arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, Denison.
