Joe K.Nelson was born May 14, 1928 in Sherman, Texas, son of Curtis and Helen Nelson.
Here he grew up and united with St. John CME Church at an early age. Joe attended Fred Douglas High School.  After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving more than 20 years before his discharge.  He also attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
Joe met and married Nina Gibbs and to this union they had one daughter, Bettina.  His wife and daughter preceded him in death.
Joe and Nina were lifetime residents of Sherman where he was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and Nina was clerk supervisor with Lone Star Gas Co.  Joe was also a member with the Polar Star Lodge, consistory, past worshipful master and past potentate.
Joe is survived  by his grandson, Kenneth Joe Walker and wife, Jennifer; 3 great-grandchildren; caregiver and friend, Barbara Goins; confidante, James E. Smith; along with other relatives and friends.
Joe K. Nelson, 93, of Sherman ascended to his eternal home on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral service was held Saturday morning, January 8, 2022 in the St. John CME Church, Sherman, Texas.  Pastor Carrie Renter officiated.  Burial followed in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, Texas.
Arrangements were entrusted to James E. Smith and the professionals at Waldo Funeral Home. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
