Sherman - Bright and decisive to the end, Julie left this world and her fight for survival on Wednesday, December 4, 2013.  A Celebration of her Life was held Wednesday afternoon, December 11, 2013 in the auditorium of the Woods Street Church of Christ in Sherman, Texas.  Burial service was at Cedarlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Julie was born March 23, 1965 in Sherman, Texas, daughter of Jack and Pat Skaggs Pierce.  After graduation from Sherman High School, she attended Austin College and later transferred to Abilene Christian University from which she received her degree.  She was a singer and a prolific writer who often wrote lengthy term papers on the night before they were due.  She also was active in drama in high school and later was on the board of founders for the Richardson Theater Center.
For over 20 years, Julie was a technical writer in the software industry.  During that time, she not only wrote but also edited, managed and mentored other writers.  This was something at which she was truly exceptional.  It was during her tenure as a technical writer for Vortech Data (a medical imaging company) that she met Mike McIntyre who truly was the "love of her life" and became her husband.  She said that their marriage of over 20 years survived because he was smarter than she was and their ability to "read" each other and enjoy the same things was remarkable.  She of said, "He knows and understands me better than anyone!"
Julie's battle with pain and immobility began in young adulthood and was attributed primarily to Ankylosing Spondilitis - a fusing together of her bones.  Along with this came other autoimmune diseases and disabling pain.  For almost 20 years she depended on a wheelchair to leave her home.  After one of her hospital stays during which she was comotose for 11 days, she gave up her writing career and began making jewelry.  Her speciality of late had been designing semi-precious stones which were cut to her specifications.  She combined them with copper to make necklaces, bracelets and pendants.
Julie is survived by her husband of Allen, Texas; son, Cory McIntyre of Allen; daughter, Katie McIntyre of Allen; grandson, Hayden McIntyre of Allen; sister, Jill Klendhoj and husband, David; brother, Lee Pierce and wife, Beverly; niece, Makalee Klendhoj; nephew, Zachary Pierce; aunt, Anna Skaggs Keller and husband, Steven; uncle, Dr. Harold Skaggs and wife, Jan; paternal mother and father-in-law, Ann and Bob McIntyre; brother-in-law, Tony McIntyre and wife, Toni; and many cousins, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harold and Leona Skaggs; paternal grandparents, Frank and Faye Pierce; aunt, June Collinsworth; and uncle, Frank Pierce, Jr.
If you wish to make a donation in Julie's name, her project to provide snacks and small meals for the Rena Tarbot Cancer Center patients would be continued with the funds.
