Billy J. Miller, 85, lifelong resident of Sherman died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Lighthouse Care Home in Sherman,Texas.
On November 7, 1931, Billy was born in Sherman, son of Lola Blakey Miller and James M. Miller.  He grew up in Sherman and attended Sherman schools.
Billy married Mattie Moran on December 24, 1951 in DeQueen, Arkansas.
He proudly served his country by serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1955 during the Korean Conflict.  He was employed by Texas Instruments and Raytheon for 16 years and managed/operated and supervised several Dairy Queens in the North Texas area for 16 years.  He was a member of Grayson Bible Baptist Church for more than 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sally Teator of Mineola; Darlene Ciaccio of Denison; and Betty Barbham of Sherman; children, Chad Michael Miller, infant son; and J.D. Miller of Sherman; and brothers, Melvin and E.J. Miller.
Billy is survived by his wife; sons, Billy E. Miller and wife, Elaine, of Sherman; and Daniel Miller and wife, Holly, of Denison; sister, Barbara Wiggins and husband, Larry, of Denison; grandchildren, Lindsey Miller McGlynn (A.J.); Jacob Miller; Gwynn Parsons; Matthew and Jennifer Kennedy; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte (Charli) McGlynn.
A Celebration of Life was held Thursday afternoon, June 9, 2016 at Grayson Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Johnson officiating with Charles Hamilton assisting.  Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.  Military honors were accorded at the graveside.
Pallbearers were Warren Ridgedell, Robert Smith, Robert McDaniel, Terry Matthews, Joe Rushing and Larry Cross.  Honorary pallbearers were Dan Wilcocks, Charles Owens and Ira Inman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be given to Grayson Bible Baptist Church, Building Fund or Mission Program, 4400 US Hwy. 82 E., Sherman, Texas, 75090.



Mattie Miller, longtime Sherman resident, joined her husband, Billy, in their Heavenly home on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Lighthouse Care Center in Sherman, Texas.  Bill and Mattie resided together for the past several months under the tender, loving care of the owners and staff of Lighthouse Care Center.
Mattie was born August 13, 1935 in Antlers, Oklahoma, daughter of Pearl Thomas and Ed Moran.  She attended Moyers School in Antlers, Oklahoma.
She married Billy Miller on December 24, 1951 in DeQueen, Arkansas.  Of this union, 4 sons were born - Billy, J.D., Chad and Daniel.  She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband at several Dairy Queens in North Texas for many years.  After her retirement from Dairy Queen, she prepared school meals for Grayson Christian Academy.
She was a member of Grayson Bible Baptist Church for more than 58 years and taught Sunday School for 46 years, was a great, dedicated prayer warrior and was very active in all activities of the church as long as her health permitted.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sons, J.D. Miller and Chad Michael Miller; and sister, Norma Owens.
She is survived by sons, Billy E. Miller and wife, Elaine, of Sherman; and Daniel Miller and wife, Holly, of Denison; brother, Tommy Moran and wife, Debbie, of Andrews, Texas; sisters, Ann Faulkenberry of Scottsdale, Arizona; Sandra Coleman and husband, Jack, of Jasper, Texas; daughter-in-law, Teresa Miller of Sherman; grandchildren, Lindsey Miller McGlynn and husband, A.J.; Jacob Miller; Gwynn Parsons; Matthew and Jennifer Kennedy; and great-granddaughter, Charli McGlynn.
A Celebration of Life service was held Thursday morning, August 25, 2016 at Grayson Bible Baptist Church in Sherman, officiated by Rev. Eddy Johnson, assisted by Bro. Charles Hamilton.  Interment followed in Cedarlawn Memorial Park.  Pallbearers were Warren Ridgedell, Robert Smith, Robert McDaniel, Terry Matthews, Joe Rushing, and Larry Cross.  Honorary pallbearers were Dan Wilcox and Ira Inman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Spanish Ministries at Grayson Bible Baptist Church, 4400 US Hwy. 82E, Sherman, Texas 75090; Lighthouse Care Center, 1409 E. Houston, Sherman, Texas 75090; or Heart to Heart Hospice, 600 E. Taylor St, Suite 3005, Sherman, Texas 75092.
