Sherman - Funeral services for Alberta Merrell were held Wednesday morning, April 14 in the West Sherman Baptist Church. Rev. Danny Wood of the church officiated. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Andy Walker, Terry Trout, Billy Flanagan, Brad Nichols, Jason Walker, and Brad Peden serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Merrell passed away Monday, April 5 in the Seven Oaks Nursing Center at the age of 90. 

Alberta was born on October 22, 1919 in Bonham, Texas, daughter of Delton and Hattie Frazier Trout. She attended Bonham schools and married John T. Merrell. Mrs. Merrell worked at Poole Manufacturing and later at the Yahoo Cake Company. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and any opportunity to gather with her family. She was a member of the West Sherman Baptist Church. She and John were married until his passing in October of 2000.
Mrs. Merrell is survived by two step-sons, Joe Merrell and his wife, Janice, of Denison; and Phillip Merrell of Singapore; 5 step grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including, Alvin Lane and wife Ruby; Haskell Sinclair and wife Von; Melba Woodward, Lou Pate; Jean Inman and husband, Leslie Wayne; Linda Carter and husband, Cecil; several great nieces and nephews including, Debbie Walker and her husband Andy; and several great great nieces and nephews. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; husband' 2 brothers; and 4 sisters.
