Lonnie B. Magers, 87, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 under the loving care of nurses and physicians at Wilson N. Jones Hospital.
Lonnie was born in Whitewright on August 1, 1931, son of Elmer and Annie Watkins Magers.  He was the second to oldest child and the only son out of 4 children.  He attended Whitewright and Sherman schools but did not graduate with a high school diploma.  He was an electrician by trade.  He worked at Electric Supply and Austin College.  Later he took an electrician position with Pillsbury.  He went through the apprenticeship in 1980 with Pillsbury and was encouraged to go to college.  He graduated from Southeastern University in 1981 with a degree in Electronics Technology.  Then he retired from PIllsbury in 1986.  He loved all types of woodworking, growing roses in his rose garden, growing all types of cacti, and was a fixer of anything for everyone.  He had a tremendous love for genealogy and learning where the family originated.  Lonnie was a lifelong learner, researcher and enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures.
He married Dassie Goodnight on May 7, 1948 in Sherman.  They spent 70 loving and wonderful years together.  They had 4 children.
He is survived in death by his wife; son, Donnie (Carol) Magers of Sherman; daughter, Connie (Lanny) McIntyre of Sherman; son, Deniis (Vicki) Magers of Hurst; daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Robinson of Sherman; 8 grandchildren, Tad (Jennifer) McIntyre of Howe; Angela (Kenny) Cargill of Longjack, MIssouri; Paul McIntyre of Pottsboro; Brian (Christy) Robinson of Sherman; Kelly (Corey) Caskey of Sherman; Tracey (Heath) Brown of Frisco; Amanda Robinson of Sherman; Jon Magers of Hurst; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter; and cousins, nieces, nephews; sisters, Donna Glenn of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Lilli Baio of Sherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Hill of Sherman.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, December 10, 2018 at the Cedarlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Rev. Virgie Holbrook officiated.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association in Lonnie's name.  They worked tirelessly and showed so much sensitivity and support.
These words were found taped on his desk and the family wanted to share:
"Remember me with smiles and laughter,
For that's the way I'll remember you.
If you remember me with tears and crying,
Don't remember me at all."
