Braden had a desire to serve his country in the military that began as a child; he talked to every branch of the military before joining the United States Army after graduating from Sherman High School in 2005.  He took his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and then was assigned as a Calvary Scout of the 1st Squadron, 4th Calvary Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, based at Ft. Riley, Kansas and was deployed to Iraq in February 2007.  

Braden married Teresa Duley on November 4, 2005 in Sherman, Texas.
He died of injuries sustained when his hmmvw came under grenade attack at the age of 19.  He earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Badge, Iraqi Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Medal.  
He is survived by his wife of Big Springs, Texas; parents, Melanie Thrasher of Sherman and William "Bill" Long III of Arlington, Texas; one brother, William Long IV of Sherman; one sister, Michaela Thrasher of Sherman; grandparents, William Long, Jr. of Florida and William Evans, Susan Long, and Shirley Dickinson, all of Ohio; one great-grandparent, William G. Long, Sr..
