Verdie Lee Johnson, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, July 3, 2015 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.
Verdie was born October 25, 1923 in Clarksville, Texas, daughter of Jimmy and Edna Dixon Davis.  She attended school in Clarksville and graduated from Honey Grove High School.  She married Charley Roberts and they remained together until his passing.  She later married Wilsie Johnson in 1968 in Denison.  Mrs. Johnson worked for many years as a custodian for Denison schools, Perrin Air Force Base, and had worked at Madonna Hospital.  She was a faithful, lifetime member of St. Emmanuel Church of God in Christ, where she worshiped the Lord with her church family and friends.  She was a wonderful lady with a heart of gold, her loving spirit will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her loving family: step-children, Billie Jean Adams and husband, Larry; Phyllis Green and husband, Alphonso; Larry; Michael; David Wayne and Victor Johnson; God children: Glenda McGilvery; Barbara Davis-Bass; Gary Davis; special God-daughter and caregiver, Catherine Berry; brother-in-law, Tom Johnson; and special cousin, Shirley Polk-Davis.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charley Roberts; second husband, Wilsie Johnson; parents; and sister, Christine Smith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held Friday morning, July 10, 2015 at St. Emmanuel COGIC in Denison with Elder Larry Polk officiating.  Interment followed in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.  A wake was held Thursday evening, July 9, 2015 at Fisher Funeral Home.


Denison - Wilsie William Johnson, 85, went home to be with his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Texoma Medical Center.
Mr. Johnson was born October 12, 1929 in Palestine, Texas, son of William and Maggie Bell Williams Johnson.  Wilsie grew up in Palestine where he attended public schools.  From a young age he was taught to make an honest living and never hesitate to work hard.  He was a meat processor by trade and worked for Tucker's and J.C. Potter for many years until retirement.
Mr. Johnson married Verdie Davis in 1968 in Denison.  He always wanted to be sure that his family was provided for, and for a majority of his adult life he owned rent houses and sold firewood he cut for extra income.
Wilsie attended and worshiped the Lord at St. Emmanuel COGIC with his church family and friends.  He was known by many people, and he will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving family; wife of 46 years, Verdie Johnson; 4 sons, Larry, Michael, David Wayne and Victor Johnson; 2 daughters, Phyllis Green and husband, Alphonso; and Billie Jean Adams and husband, Larry; 5 grandchildren, Rachel Starn and husband, Scott; Larry Adams, Jr.; Jolanda Adams; Cassandra Edwards and Shauntae Hines and husband, Greg; 4 great-grandchildren: Jasmine Starn, Julie Adams, Joel Edwards, and Janylah Hines; brother, William Lee Johnson; God-daughter, Catherine Berry; very close family friends and caregivers: Stanley Perry, Reggie Perry, and Brian Lorens; and a countless host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joel Johnson; and sister, Maddie Norman.
The home-going celebration for Mr. Johnson was held Thursday morning, October 30, 2014 at St. Emmanuel COGIC with Elder Larry Polk officiating.  Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
