Funeral service for Merle Johnson, 85, of Sherman, Texas were held Thursday morning, March 31, 2016 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Sherman.  Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
He passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016 in Sherman.
Merle was  born in East St. Louis, Illinois on December 22, 1930, son of George Robert and Goldie Stoddard Johnson.  After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force, serving for 22 years before retiring.  During his time in the military, he served in Korea and Vietnam.  Following his military career, he began working for Safeway later retiring in 1986.  Merle was married to his wife of 60 years, Grace Buckley.  He loved reading, gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family.  He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.
Merle is survived by his wife of Sherman; 2 daughters, Lori O'Rear of Denison, Texas and Lynne McLean of Dallas; 2 brothers, Bill Johnson and wife Sandy, and Carl Johnson and wife, Wilma; sister, Lois Aud; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, LaVonne Johnson; granddaughter Leslie McKinney; sister, Betty Shufeldt; 2 brothers, Huey Johnson and Bobby Johnson; and 2 sons-in-law, Paul McLean and Larry O'Rear.


Funeral services for Grace Johnson, 94, were held Wednesday morning, February 1, 2017 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Josh Burton officiating.  Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Grace was born November 6, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio, daughter of John William and Genevieve Zedaker Buckley.  She passed from this life on Friday, January 27, 2017 in Denison, Texas.
Grace was raised in Sharon, Pennsylvania.  She was a career woman long before it was fashionable. She was employed at Sharon Steel for several years and later at the Comptroller Office for the city of Madison, Wisconsin.
Grace was married to her husband of 60 years, Merle, until his death.  Together they lived in different states because of his career in the AIr Force.  Grace would take care of their 3 daughters while he traveled the world.  When Merle retired from the Air Force in 1970, they moved from Perrin Air Force base to Sherman.  She became the accountant for the Sherman Community Hospital (later Medical Plaza Hospital) for 26 years until retiring at the age of 70.
Grace was a master at crochet, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was a fabulous cook. She also enjoyed playing the ponies and an occasional slot machine.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, LaVonne Johnson; granddaughter, Leslie McKinney; sister, Anna Mae Bartholomew; brother, Bill Buckley; and 2 sons-in-law, Paul McLean and Larry O'Rear.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynne McLean of Dallas and Lori O'Rear of Denisoj; son, Bill Kasiara of Ohio; brothers, Bill Johnson and wife Sandy, and Carl Johnson and wife Wilma; sister-in-law, Lois Aud; and several nieces and nephews.
