DENISON - Funeral for Rev. Wayne Imboden, 81, minister of the Southside Baptist Church for 32 years, who died Monday at his home, was held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church. Burial was at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Officiating was by the following ministers, Keith Taylor of Lewisville, Bruce Melton, Hunnington Beach, California, Al Jones of Milburn, Florida. and Lester Singleton of Duncan, Oklahoma. Graveside ministers were Alvin Lay and Sam Henderson.
Born September 9, 1904 in Missouri, the family moved first to Texas then Enid, Oklahoma. He attended schools in Vernon, Texas and Enid, Oklahoma. He married Lillie Mae Reed August 18, 1928 in Waukomis, Oklahoma. He received honorary doctorate degrees from the Fort Worth Bible Baptist Seminary and the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He joined the church at 29 and two years later started preaching the gospel. He began the Bible Baptist Church in Enid in 1935. Six years later he moved to Altus, Oklahoma where he was at the Tabernacle Baptist Church for 11 years. He moved to Denison to take the pastorship of the Southside Baptist Church where he remained for 32 years.
He worked for missions, home missions and development of youth. He cofounded the Texoma Bible Baptist Youth Camp in 1949 along with Lester Singleton and Loys Vess in 1949. He was director of that youth council for more than 20 years.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Don of Austin, Gary of Kilgore and Jim of Nashville, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Don of Longdale, Oklahoma; four sisters, Mrs. Ruby Boyd and Mrs. Opal Stranathan of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Doris Moyers and Mrs. Josie Upps of Enid, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers were ministers once serving under his pastorships. They are ministers Sam Henderson, Bill Higgins, Johnny Fletcher, Don Laughlin, Chris Korner, and David Huggins.
