Sammy Jones Hix, 61, went to be with the Lord December 25, 2016 at his home in Denison.
Sammy was born July 15, 1955 in Denison, son of John and Maxine Hix.  He lived in Sherman until he was 12.  Then the family moved to Denison in 1967.  He graduated from Denison High School Class of 1973.  Upon graduating he enlisted for 6 years in the U.S. Air Force.  For 3 years he worked in Nuclear Missile facilities in Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska.  The last 3 years he taught electronics at the school of Applied Aerospace Science at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.  Sammy obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
After serving his country Sammy returned to Denison and graduated with honors from Grayson College in Applied Science.  During this time Sammy and his family were members of the First Christian Church in Denison, where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, Youth Group leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and Worship Leader.  He was the HVAC technician for Denison School for 23 years.  He operated his own business after retiring in 2007.
Sammy leaves behind his best friend, Karen Castle; brother, John Hix, of Allen, Texas; daughter, Michelle McCloud and husband, Mars, of Denison; 5 grandchildren, Austin, Zane, Alex, Hunter, and Samantha; and many friends.
Sammy was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Sampson Hix; his parents; and brother, Jimmy Dale Hix.
Celebration of Life service was held Friday morning, December 30, 2016 at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Roger Speers officiating.  Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with military honors.  Arrangements were under the supervision of Fisher Funeral Home. - - - Fisher Funeral Home
