Francine Long Hickox
14 November 1943 - 23 October 2011


Francine Long Hickox, a former teacher and librarian, age 67, of Howe, Texas, died on October 23, 2011 at her residence after a long battle with cancer. Services were on Tuesday morning, at First Baptist Church of Howe with Rev. Roger Tidwell officiating. Interment followed at Cederlawn Memorial Cemetery in Sherman.  Pallbearers were James Slawson, Rick Ake, Scotty Harris, Michael Mosier, Don Felder and Brian Ross.  Honorary Pallbearers were members of the 2011 All-Star Baseball Team first in the State of Texas. Team members were: Caleb Ake, Quinton Harris, Easton Ross, Dalton Felder, Austin Williams, Garrett Fulenchek, Brice Harvey, Stratton Carroll, Griffin Underwood and Joaquin Lopez.
Francine was born on Novermber 14, 1943, daughter of William Henry Long and Frances Pauline Werline Long in Sherman, Texas. She graduated from Howe High School in 1962 and went on to Texas A & M Commerce and graduated from there in 1966.
Francine married Gerald Ned Hickox on June 27, 1964 and together they had 2 children.
Francine taught school at the Howe ISD for 5 years and taught at the Whitewright ISD for 30 years where she was also director of the yearbook staff.
Francine was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Howe. She was active in her church throughout the years, volunteering her time in GA’s, also as an XYZ Director, and organist.
She loved to travel and go to her grandchildren’s events. Francine loved reading and music.
Francine is survived by her loving husband, Gerald Hickox; son, Robert Lynn Hickox and wife, Michelle; daughter, Lisa Gay Hickox Nix and husband, Michael; brother, Hubert Long and wife, Phyllis, of Sherman; sister-in-law, Dorothy Long, of Mesquite, grandchildren: Michael Ray Huff, Ashley Dawn Nix, Randle Auten Nix, Cameron Cailee Hickox and Abby Allynn Hickox.
Donations may be made to any of the following Texas Oncology, Home Hospice, or First Baptist Church of Howe.
