U.S. Veteran funeral services for Homer R. Gunn, Jr., 94, were held Monday afternoon, March 9, 2015 at West Sherman Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Wood officiating.  Mr. Gunn will be laid to rest at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.  Pallbearers were Brian Gunn, Bruce Gunn, Aaron Ashmore, Gary McNew, Cody Comba and Jimmy Steward.
Homer was born in Leona, Texas on July 30, 1920, son of Homer Sr. and Thelma Guy Gunn and passed from this life on Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Sherman.   Homer grew up in Leona and was a 1937 graduate of North Zulch High School in North Zulch, Texas.  After high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and spent 30 years, retiring in 1968 as an Air Force Chief Warrant Officer (CWO-4).   Homer served during World War II as a military policeman in the European theater.  He took great pride in his service to our grateful nation.
Home married Willene Shook on August 2, 1941 in Ballinger, Texas.  She preceded him in death.
After military retirement, he spent a short time in Real Estate, got his pilot's license, and did lots of fishing.  As a young man, he enjoyed racing boats and was an exceptional mechanic working on cars and boats, and often working at marinas.  Homer was an avid fisherman, belonging to the Texoma Bass Club and enjoyed many forms of car racing, especially Sprint and NASCAR races.
Mr. Gunn was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lana Kay Gardner; son, Bobby Gunn; sisters, Joyce and Juanita; and brother, Barton.
Survivors include his sons, Bruce Gunn and wife, Carole, of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; and Brian Gunn and wife, Gail, of Ravenna, Texas; grandchildren: Deanna Gunn; Lisa Espenshade and husband, Mark, and their son, Conner; Brandy Comba and fiance, Gary McNew; Cody Comba and wife, Melissa and their kids, Shelby and Rhody; Tiffany Marie Gunn; Kristina Ashmore and husband, Aaron; Scott Gardner and Michael Gardner with their respective families; Rebecca Steward and husband, Jimmy and their son, Jesse; and April Melton and husband, John; and several nieces and nephews.
Full military honors were conducted by the Sheppard Air Force Base Honor Guard at the cemetery.
