Preston Orr Flowers, 88, lifelong resident of Sherman, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at The Homestead of Sherman.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Grayson Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Webster officiating and Dr. Eddy Johnson assisting.  Interment followed immediately afterward at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman.
Preston was born May 17, 1926 in Grayson Co., son of James "Fate" and Virginia Kidd Flowers.  He graduated from Sherman High School.  Very soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army.  He served in the Phillipines 1944-1945.  Wounded in 2 battles, Preston was awarded the Purple Heart.  His diligence as a soldier also earned him numerous other meritorious awards, including the Asiatic Ribbon, the Liberation Ribbon, the Rifleman's Badge, and good a Good Conduct Award, just to name a few.
Soon after returning from military action, Preston married Sadie Belle Brandon.  They were blessed with one son, Steve.  Preston retired from Handy Foods in Gainesville, and later retired a second time from Wal-Mart.  He was a very active member of Grayson Bible Church for over 60 years.
Preston was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Luther Flowers and Thomas "Toots" Flowers; and one great-grandchild, Izaiah Flowers.
Survivors include his loving wife; son, Steve Flowers and wife, Kenda, of Sherman; sisters, Pauldeane Lilly of Sherman; and Merrill Lou Taylor of McConnellsville, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Richardson, Charles Hamilton, Robert McDaniel, Terry Matthews, Richard Arrington, and John Meeks. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Miller, Bill Melton, Dale Buchanan, and Jerry Rawlings.
