1920 - 2008

Thomas F. "Toots" Flowers of Bells, 87 year-old retired policeman for the city of Sherman, passed away at his home Tuesday evening, April 29, 2008.
Services were held Saturday morning, May 3, 2008 at Truth Tabernacle in Denison. Rev. Robert Bernard and Rev. Novy Glass officiated and the burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Toots was born June 15, 1920 in Armstrong, Oklahoma, son of James L. Flowers and Virginia Ann Kidd Flowers. He attended school as long as he could before he had to help support his family. He worked for a few years for the railroad and was employed as a police officer for the City of Sherman for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He married Wilma Marie Good November 23, 1940 in Grayson County. He had lived in the Bells, Texas area for the last 37 years.
Toots enjoyed all people and loved to talk and visit with his friends. It was common that when he was telling a story considered confidential to someone he would say "keep that under your hat", meaning do not say a word. He enjoyed tending to his pecan trees, gardening and growing vegetables, which he gave much away to his family and friends. He also enjoyed going out for dinner with family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren. One of his favorite hobbies was napping. He had been a member of the Andrew Randell Masonic Lodge and was a Thirty-second degree Mason.
He is survived by his daughter, Sadie Brown of Bells; brother, P. O. Flowers and wife, Sadie, of Sherman; sisters, Pauldine Lilly of Dorchester, and Merriel Taylor of Ohio; 2 granddaughters, Mandy Thomas and husband, Paul, and Melinda Easley and husband, Michael, all of McKinney; 4 great-granddaughters, Miranda and Micayla Thomas of McKinney, Taylar Easley and Mackinsey Easley, both of Sherman; and a great-grandson, Paul Edward Thomas IV of McKinney; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in February of 2003; son, Richard Thomas Flowers; and daughter, Patricia Louise Flowers, both who passed away at a young age; also a brother, Luther Flowers of California; and son-in-law, Jerry Don Brown.

Pallbearers were Larry Brown, Randy Hayes, Chris Hayes, Michael Easley, Paul Thomas, and Jan Armstrong. Honorary pallbearer was the great-grandson, Paul Edward Thomas IV.
The family wishes to thank Sunrise Home Health and Jordan Home Health, as well as Ann Black, Jeanie and Regina with Home Hospice of Grayson County for the dedicated and loving care given to Mr. Flowers over the last few years.
