Sherman - Joan Christine Fleming, 65, of Sherman, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Medical City Hospital in Dallas.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, December 30,  2014 at Dannel Funeral Chapel.  Dr. Mike Lawson of First Baptist Church of Sherman officiated.  Interment followed immediately afterward in Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Joan was born July 2, 1949 in Ennis, Texas, daughter of Walter Leeman and Doris Chamberlain Decker.  She was a 1968 graduate of Sherman High School and later received her associate's degree from Grayson County College.  She was a voracious reader and a longtime member of First  Baptist Church of Sherman.  Joan worked many years in quality control for Texas Instruments and later retired from Emerson Manufacturing when her health began to fail.  On January 12, 1968 she was married to Melvin Fleming.  They were blessed with one daughter.
Preceded in death by her father and her husband, Joan is survived by her mother of Denison; daughter, Christine Fleming and granddaughter, Katlyn Williams of Sherman; sister, Karen Hightower of Pottsboro; sister-in-law, Debbie Naffziger and husband, Jim, of Las Vegas and their son, Christopher and his wife, Betsy; and daughter, Heather Hardison and her children, Austin and Emma; sister-in-law, Cyndi Spencer and husband, Rick; special cousins, Ronny and Kathie Nicholson of Ft. Worth, their son, Corbett and daughter, Courtney Wright and her husband, Jeff, and their daughters, Chloe and Claire.
In lieu of flowers, Joan's family suggest memorial donations to programs sponsoring stem cell and/or cancer research.
Arrangements were under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.
