W.J. "Jack" Dexheimer
1898 - 1971

Donald Dexheimer was born in the small Shannon community, south of Denison, Texas on August 26, 1935 and passed on
April 5, 2022 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.  His parents were Wilson John "Jack" and Josephine "Phennie" Thomson Dexheimer.  Donald lived with his family in Shannon on 72 acres, where he was kept busy milking cows and farming with his father, Jack.  However, this did not keep him from roaming the woods squirrel hunting and fishing with his lifelong firends, Art and Ronny Arthur.  These early experiences led him to qualify as a "sharpshooter" in the Army National Guard.

Don attended school in the Shannon community and later graduated from Denison High School.  During this time, he began working at Startton Pontiac in the parts and service department, and later became a salesman at Haddock Ford in Denison, Texas.  This led to him owning Dex's Auto Sales on Main Street, Denison before retiring in 2001.  Don was also a farmer and cattle rancher, but when asked what his favorite job was, he would always say being a brakeman for MKT railroad, where he also worked for many years.
Don was also a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Bells, Texas, serving on many committees throughout the years.  He and his wife, Carolyn, and Andy and Faye Nell Anderson worked in the Community Care Center for serveral years.  He was also an endowed member of the Bells Masonic Lodge #810 and a 32nd degree Mason.   He was a lifetime member of Loy Lake Association and the Grayson County Sheriff Academy.  He served for several years on the Bells ISD School Board, being instrumental in building the new school at its current location.
On February 15, 1958, he married Helen Jean Cooper, who preceded him in death on July 29, 1978.  He later married Carolyn Moir Henderson Dexheimer.
Don is survived by his wife; sister, Dorothy Dexheimer Morris; 3 daughters, Melanie Neal and husband, Darlis; L'Cena Bateman and husband, Randy; and Michele Brewer and friend, Casey Hammons; 2 granddaughters, Shianne Andrews and husband, Randy; and Chelsie Brownfield and husband, Dusty; 2 grandsons, Dalton Dexheimer and Dex Brewer; and 2 great-grandchildren, Tyler Westerdale and Luna Andrews; 2 nephews, Ricky Morris and Michael Morris.
The family celebrated his life with funeral services on Monday morning, April 22, 2022 at Scoggins Funeral Home, Van Alstyne, Texas.
Donations can be made in his honor to the First United Methodist Church in Bells, TExas; Shriner Hospital in Dallas; or the Heart-to-Heart Hospice Charitable Foundation.  Services were under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home, Van Alstyne, Texas. - - - Scoggins Funeral Home
