Funeral services for Lewis Andrew Darnell, 88, were held Wednesday afternoon, August 13, at Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Carl Douglas officiating.  Mr. Darnell was laid to rest at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Larry St. Clair, Tommy Bateman, Roster Mathis, Jack Gleaves, Jimmy Fred Klas and Steve Mathis serving as casket bearers.
Luke was born June 24, 1926 in Sherman, Texas, son of James and Daisy Darnell and passed away on August 10, 2014 at the Beacon Hill Retirement Home in Denison.
Mr. Darnell attended Southmayd High School.  He married Anna Faye Clay on October 2, 1943 at Durant, Oklahoma.  Luke served in the United State Army 1944-1946 where he was stationed in Germany and France.  He later worked for the railroad approximately 44 years  beginning with Frisco, then proceeding to Burlington Northern where he retired in 1988.  Luke was a  member of the Travis St. Masonic Lodge #177 of Sherman where he received a 50 year pin for his service and longtime member of the VFW.   Mr. Darnell was a member of Dixie Baptist Church in Whitesboro.
Luke was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Darnell, Jr. and wife, Cherry, of Sherman; sister, Mozell Coplen and husband, Boyd, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother, Hyman E. Darnell and wife, Ethel, of Artesia, New Mexico.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Fay Darnell of Denison; 7 nieces, 7 nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
