Established 1948   Wanda N. Carthey (Moorefield/Jones), 88, of Sherman, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2020 in Denison, Texas. She was born in Whitewright, Texas on July 14, 1931, daughter of John Wesley Jones and Dollie Bright Jones. Wanda was a member of East Sherman Baptist Church and believed that Jesus Christ died for her so she could enjoy eternal life. She enjoyed many sports and outdoor activities as a youth and young adult. Through her years she was known as "Mom" to many and not just her 4 biological children. Later in life, she was known as "Grandma Cathy" to al those who knew her. Wanda is survived by 3 sons and one daughter, Bobby Moorefield and wife, Lauren, of Houston, Texas; Dollie Kappel and husband, Roger, of Denison Texas; John Moorefield of Nappanee, Indiana; Marshall O. Cathey, Jr. and wife, Sharlote, of Denison, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Renetta Militello of Goshen, Indiana; grandchildren, Randy Moorefield; Tony Moorefield; Elizabeth Moorefield Barker; Donny Moorefield; Jimmy Moorefield; Jesica Slottje; Britt Kappel; Daniel Moorefield; Shawn Moorefield; Hunter Cathey; Cooper Cathey; and Kensler Cathey. She is also survived by former spouse, Marshall O. Cathey, Sr.; numerous nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Velma Lee Taylor; Henrietta Stewart; Johnnie Shipman; Marilyn Adams; and brothers, Weldon Jones; John Wesley Jones "JW"; Paul Jones and former spouse Bob Moorefield. Private graveside services were held at Cedarlawn Memorial Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
