SHERMAN - Monroe E. "Gene" Coble, 84-year-old Sherman resident, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ in Sherman. Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 11 at Mirick Ave. Church of Christ in Denison with Bro. Quinton Gage and George Edwards officiating. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Ft. Hood Honor Guard.
Mr. Coble was born on June 12, 1926 in Calera, Oklahoma, son of Robert Lee and Iva Taylor Coble and attended Denison schools. He married Evelyn Thompson on September 4, 1943 in Denison.
He was a member of the Mirick Ave. Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the BPO Elk's #2280 in Sherman and a lifetime member of the VFW in Denison. He was an avid bowler, bowling in Sherman, Denison and Plano. Mr. Coble worked for Central Freight as a truck driver for more than 40 years and retired from there.
Family members served as pallbearers.
Mr. Coble is survived by his son, Donald E. Coble and his wife, DanNita, of Pottsboro; daughters, Kay LaClair and her husband, Leon, of Bartow, Florida; Peggy Vaughn and her husband, William, of Sherman; and Susie Ellis and her husband, David, of Dallas; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn on October 7, 2001; sister, Peggy Jo Bowers; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Pagan.
The family requests memorials to Mirick Ave. Church of Christ, 2800 S. Mirick Ave., Denison, Texas 75020.
