Charles Douglas Cooksey, 85, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veteran Center in Bonham, Texas.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Coffman officiating.  The Lone Star Masonic Lodge #403 conducted the Masonic Funeral Rites with burial following in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman.  Pallbearers were members of Lone Star Masonic Lodge #403.
Charles was born Friday, November 27, 1931 in Rogers, Texas, son of General Lee Cooksey and Mary Lucile Tate Cooksey.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952.  During that time, he in the Korean War and was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze stars, and the UN Campaign Medal.  He worked as a Foreman for U T Electric and was a Master Mason with Lone Star Masonic Lodge #403 for over 50 years.
He is survived by three sons - Charles Cooksey and wife Linda of Whitesboro; Jerry Cooksey and wife Angela of Denison; Gary Cooksey of Sherman; six grandchildren - Melony, Amber, Jared, Brian, Crystal, and Mark; 13 great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren - Sandra Price-Cox of Garland, Vickie Mezzacaooa and husband Frank of Denison; Randy Price and wife Bobbie of Denison; five grandchildren, Jeremy, Lyssa, Dillon, Kristen, Kerri and five great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Jean Richards; brother-in-law, C.W. Hornbuckle; sister-in-law, Jean Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth Marie Bledsoe Cooksey; second wife, Virginia Ann Jones Cooksey; and third wife, Wanda Belcher Cooksey. - - - Bratcher Funeral Home
