DENISON - Bettie Laverne Bishop, 85, of Denison, formerly of Austin, passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at Texoma Medical Center.
Mrs. Bishop was born March 10, 1924 in Dalhart, daughter of Charles Edward and Ruby Lee Smith Goodnight. Bettie graduated from Denison High School and joined the WAVES in 1942.  She served w years during World War II where she was stationed in Washington, D.C. as a lab technician. Upon her return from the service, she was employed at Kraft Foods in Denison. On
April 12, 1945 she married Billy Ross Bishop in Denison and shared her life with him until his death in 2004.
Bettie was an avid golfer and gardener. She loved to paint where her works are exhibited in the homes of all her family. She was actively involved in volunteer work with the Community Senior Citizens Program at Cedar Park. Most importantly, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will deeply missed by her family.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her daughters, Bettie Mathis and husband, Bill, of Texas City; and Lee Ann Gilliam and husband, Ricky, of Denison; and 2 grandsons, Trey Mathis of Austin; and Arron Taylor of Benbrook.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and beloved sons, William Ross Bishop and John Adam Bishop.
Graveside services were held Wednesday morning, February 10, 2010 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Chapel on the Hill.
Arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison.
