Sherman - Funeral Services for Iris Lillian Brede were held Saturday afternoon, January 2, 2010 in the Chapel on the Hill at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.  Pastor Tom Harkins, associate pastor of the Sherman Bible Church officiated with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.  Mrs. Brede passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Homestead of Sherman at the age of 90.
Iris was born April 8, 1919 in Tifton, Georgia, daughter of Thomas "T.R." and Zona Willis Denby.  She was the youngest of 9 children.  Iris graduated high school in Tifton and attended the Perry Business School in Moultrie, Georgia.  Upon graduation, she began working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  Iris met Army Air Corp Airman Bernard Brede of Palestine, Texas on a blind date.  They began their life together and were married on September 4, 1943 in Seymour, Indiana, where Bernard was based at Turner Army Airfield.  Later, their life brought them to Texas where Bernard began working for Vinnedge Bestyet Company and later became a distributor in Sherman, Texas for Morton Food Company.  Iris and Bernard were happily married for over 51 years when he passed away on January 25, 1995.  Joining on April 7, 1967, Iris was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Sherman for over 42 years.  A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Iris was affectionately known as "Nany" to her kids and grandkids.
Mrs. Brede is survived by her daughter, Joyce A. Park and husband, Jerry, of Howe, Texas; son, Gerald  B. Brede and wife, Diane, of Sherman; 7 grandchildren: Chris Bernard Brede of Denison; Major Thomas Kyle Brede and wife, Krista, of Japan; Ashlyn Nelson and husband, Ryan, of Frisco, Texas; Brad Brede of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Lisa King of Howe, Texas; Debra Pierson of Whitesboro, Texas; and Angela Cox of Kirkland, Washington; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica and Ciarra King; Harper Park; Sadie and Maggie Pierson; Kameron, Jacob and Luke Brede; Raimie and Alyssa Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Brede was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 8 siblings. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
